Harvest Pumpkin Sourdough Bread

In Fall 2019, the Levies invited me to begin blogging for the bakery. I wanted to try something different using pumpkin puree in my sourdough bread. I couldn’t find a traditional “Pumpkin Bread” recipe, so I experimented with some fall flavors, combining the warmth of pumpkin with the cider spice to create a unique Harvest Pumpkin Bread.

Key Ingredients:

  • Sourdough Starter: The heart of this recipe provides a tangy flavor and airy texture.
  • Pumpkin Puree: Adds moisture and a touch of sweetness.
  • Spiced Apple Cider: Infuses the bread with warm, fall flavors.
  • Pumpkin Seeds: For a crunchy topping and extra nutritional boost.

Making mini pumpkin waffles

Sourdough Pumpkin Waffles

This was a tiny pumpkin surprise for me— a mini pumpkin-shaped waffle maker gifted by a family member sparked my new culinary adventure. Combining sourdough starter, pumpkin puree, and a touch of spice, I whipped up a batch of mini pumpkin sourdough waffles. It was a delightful experiment, perfect for a cozy breakfast for one.

Since fall has arrived at Riverside Lodge, bringing crisp air and colorful foliage, it was time to harvest the pumpkins. Unfortunately, this year’s crop was a bit of a disappointment, with most of the pumpkins turning out to be gourds. But there were enough to make pumpkin puree.
